Spent the weekend in Atlanta celebrating Mommy/G's birthday along with the St Pete branch of the family. Stephen and William were non-stop entertainment and I spent much of my time with them trying to get them to say my name or something close to it. They're much better at saying "Aunt Sarah" and "Aunt Ginger."
On the birthday front, Mommy got some cool presents (including a tiny computer for the kitchen, a portable ice maker, a nice gold necklace and pendant, a cute computer/work bag, and so on), a coconut cake, and an amusing video message from the Austin crowd, complete with Elizabeth's birthday balloons in the background. Very cute.
Marian, a friend from Tulane who still lives in New Orleans joined the party and spent a couple days in Atlanta that seemed very familiar. Almost three years ago to the day, I sat on the same couch watching very much the same CNN broadcasts. Part of you wants to distract yourself but most of you wants to watch it all unfold, needs to know all there is to know (even if it is completely speculative). We caravaned back to Nashville this afternoon and will continue to refresh NHC for the next 12 hours, I'm sure.
((On a related side note, I find it odd that CNN is weaving twitter tweets and facebook status updates into their broadcast. I mean, the video iReport of an abandoned St. Charles was interesting/minimally newsworthy but random tweets from evacuees seem out of place. ))

Luxury?
Apparently, any more than the standard 2.5 kids is now considered a luxury. When I proposed this idea to my own parents, they remarked that must make me the ultimate luxury child. Which makes a lot of sense when I consider the thousands of dollars spent on my orthodontics, college living expenses, and countless other things. Not to mention the time and effort exerted to make sure that the five of us made it to through to adulthood without spending any time behind bars. So, that's the origin of this blog's name.
Now, anyone who follows any of my online endeavors knows that they often fizzle out or never really get off the ground. I get too distracted, or I forget, or I feel like I have nothing to contribute. So who knows how often this will be updated, or who will even be told of its existence. But, hey, I have a blog name that I don't hate and I only have one year until I have to be a "real adult." So, hopefully I'll find something to put here. Or not.
